Our company was founded as a household drug manufacturer in 1901 and we have since steadily conducted our business with the goal of improving people's health. Our primary product, the antiphlogistic analgesic plaster, TOKUHON, has been used by so many of our customers since its launch in 1933, that the name has become synonymous with a drug for stiff shoulders and backaches.
In 1989, aiming at more rapid progress, we changed the company name from Suzuki Nippondo Co., Ltd., to TOKUHON Corporation.
Under the management concept of a "wellness industry," we are always searching for new possibilities to maximize our know-how about dermal absorption therapy. We are constantly innovating to create drugs that contribute to improved health. We will always make our best effort to supply products that people truly need.
TOKUHON is named after a famous doctor, Nagata Tokuhon, who was actively engaged in the practice of medicine from the late Muromachi era to the early Edo era. Beginning by studying traditional Japanese medicine, Dr. Tokuhon compounded his own original medicinal products based on his experience and intuition. His medicines were designed to be sufficientlyefficacious to cure patients with wounds or illnesses. He received only a small amount of money in exchange for his treatment and drugs. Impressed by his great spirit and attitude toward providing medical service, we think of the word, tokuhon, as being related to the word, toku, combining the virtue of benefitting individuals with the concept of the relief of pain. Therefore, his name was adopted as the name of our company.
